Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Southampton boss, Mauricio Pellegrino, has been sacked following the 3-0 thumping inflicted on him at St James Park on Saturday. Pellegrino leaves the club hanging just one point above the drop zone in 17th place with eight games remaining.
The Magpies propping up our bar have come to the conclusion that it was their club who got the Argentine manager sacked. Kenedy opened the scoring for Newcastle in the Northeast after just 69 seconds against Southampton and never looked back as the Saints effectively gave up. Rafa Benitez’ ruthless Newcastle would go on to win 3-0 and take a big step towards their own Premier League survival.
Going into the game, the Toon Army were just one point ahead of Southampton in what was billed to be a close affair in both club’s battle against relegation. However, Southampton looked like a side already down as they got walked all over by Kenedy and co. The Saints at the bar will be at least hoping they can get the right man in quickly as they aim to mount a late charge to stay in the division after a mostly forgettable season.

I'm just glad Pellegrino went AFTER we played them, and not before. We all know what typically happens then… #NUFC

Pellegrino was terrible for Saints but don’t know how to take the amount of teams that sack managers straight after losing to @NUFC we have to hold some kind of record

Last one before Pellegrino to get the sack after playing us? Was it Allardyce? Actually wasn't he sacked during? I remember enjoying that.
