Newcastle’s heroic performance against Manchester City on Saturday saw them take a share of the points and also head into 14th in the table by the end of the day. Steve Bruce’s appointment was greeted with disappointment by the Magpies’ fans and he was criticised as recently as their defeat to Aston Villa last Monday, but things seem to be changing.
He’s now taken three points off Manchester United and Tottenham, a point off Man City and ran Liverpool very close at Anfield, so he’s well on his way to winning the fans over. They’re still less than five points from the relegation zone, but their 6.96/10 rating from WhoScored compared to City’s rating of 6.65/10 for Saturday’s game shows they can win points in the most difficult of matches.
Chronicle Live’s Newcastle-focused Twitter account @ChronicleNUFC posted a tweet asking fans to rate Steve Bruce so far this season out of 10, and there were plenty of fans eager to express how they’ve changed their mind on Rafael Benitez’s successor.
Marks out of 10 for Steve Bruce so far then, #nufc fans?

You can see some of their reactions to the tweet below:
8/10 with room for improvement. Having to perform in far worse conditions than the previous regime. Lesser crowds, lesser atmosphere, being unwanted, inheriting a squad and pre determined signings. He’s doing fantastic

He’s doing a lot better then Rafa… just the wrong strikers he needs two better ones

8/10. Any man who gives it a go under Ashley (instantly has one arm tied behind his back) deserves credit for me. Ashley is the problem and always will be.

7, he’s done well with the squad he’s got, the signings aren’t his they’re from above so you can’t judge him on them. We’ll have enough for a mid table finish which is par for the course, be interesting if he has a say on players going forward

8 so far. I expected to be rock bottom and have absolute no hope. However other then a few very below par performances we look solid👏🏼 credit where it’s due to Steve and the players

7! We’ve more points than last season and are more entertaining than last season. Got to give him some credit. Well done Steve Bruce 👏🏾
