Newcastle United: Fans discuss Mark Douglas report on new owner tests

Plenty of Newcastle United fans have discussed a report from ChronicleLive writer Mark Douglas after it was shared by The Chronicle on their official Twitter page.

The journalist writes about how the potential new owners will have to go through detailed checks from the Premier League before a takeover can be given the green light. However, he did say that it could be days or weeks before all of the checks are completed, rather than months.

These checks have been set up to protect the financial integrity of the top flight, and according to Douglas, the Tyneside club’s prospective owners are hopeful that it will take weeks rather than months as the outlet understands that checks are underway.

The publication highlights three main checks that need to be undertaken: background to endure professional reputation, proof of funding and business plans for three years as well as a meeting with the Premier League board, potential directors and the new owners.
