Newcastle United: Fans discuss takeover report as Premier League clubs have suggested that it should be blocked

Loads of Newcastle United fans have been discussing a report from The Sun that Premier League teams have suggested to block the Tyneside club’s potential takeover because of a row over television rights.

As per the article, the issue is with the TV station beoutQ which has been frowned upon by the top flight and other sports governing bodies including FIFA and UEFA for their broadcasts across the Middle East.

Games in the Prem were sold to Qatar-based beIN Sports as part of a three-year deal currently worth £328m, but supporters in the Gulf region were able to watch matches through decoder boxes which were linked to the Saudi-owned Arabsat satellite.

With most sides in England’s top division still reeling from the impact of the global pandemic, there are worries beIN will follow through with a threat to cut payments. Those could be by as much as 50 per cent as a result of the damage to the value of the contracts, as per the outlet.
