Newcastle United: Fans hail Matty Longstaff after impressive Rochdale goal

Following Newcastle United’s dominant 4-1 victory over Rochdale at St. James’ Park on Tuesday evening, there were many talking points, including a first goal in four months for Joelinton, but one moment from academy graduate Matty Longstaff appeared to stand out with these Magpies supporters.

Longstaff, who broke into the senior team earlier on in the campaign, scoring the winner during Newcastle’s 1-0 home victory over Manchester United, managed to notch their second of the game against the League One minnows with a well-taken touch, turn and hit into the roof of the net. The Englishman, who has now bagged three goals in eight starts for the Magpies from midfield, put in a very good display on Tuesday even when not taking into account his strike – prompting many supporters to praise the youngster for his efforts. Longstaff, when compared with brother and fellow academy man Sean, appears to be the superior of the two on paper – amassing a 78.3% pass success rate while scoring more league goals from midfield (2) and completing more dribbles per game, as per WhoScored.com.
