Newcastle United: Fans happy that potential FA Cup fourth round tie won’t be televised

Responding to a piece by the Chronicle [14:29], Newcastle United supporters have hailed the fact that their team’s potential FA Cup fourth-round tie against Oxford United, should they get past Rochdale first, won’t be broadcast live – citing it as ‘one less embarrassment’ to endure.

The Magpies drew 1-1 away to the League One outfit last weekend, with a late equaliser from Dale striker Aaron Wilbraham cementing a humbling scoreline against a side two divisions below the Tyneside club.

Miguel Almiron’s early strike in the first half had put them in the ascendancy, but the unlikely leveller from Wilbraham has forced Steve Bruce’s side to replay the fixture at St. James’ Park next Tuesday.

If they manage to get past Rochdale, Newcastle’s potential fourth-round tie with Oxford United will not be picked for the big screen – resulting in many Magpies supporters to react gleefully to the news given their pitiful record in the competition under the ownership of Mike Ashley.

Here’s what they had to say on social media in response.
