Responding to a piece by the Sun, Newcastle United supporters didn’t hold back in their criticism of Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘nightmare’ trip to RB Leipzig in the Last 16 of the Champions League – blasting the so-called logistical conundrum surrounding the trek to Germany.
Jose Mourinho’s side drew the Bundesliga leaders in the first round of the knockout stages, with the prospect of a potentially difficult trip for travelling supporters – highlighted by this Sun piece which claims the longest possible method of travel will take over three hours.
Reacting to the article, Magpies supporters were in hysterics – claiming the so-called geographical inconvenience is nothing compared to what European trips they’ve had to endure in the past.
Most recently, during their 2012/2013 Europa League campaign, Newcastle fans had to travel to the likes of Fenerbahce and Maritimo in order to watch their side compete at one of the highest levels in football.
Here’s how supporters mocked Spurs’ travel woes on Twitter.
Cry me a river. They’re getting to Leipzig quicker than it takes Newcastle fans to get to most DOMESTIC away games 😂😂 who wrote this absolute codswallop?

London to Leipzig is only 40 mins more than the bus from Blyth to the Toon!
