Newcastle United gave their chances of Premier League survival a massive boost last night after they beat Burnley 2-0 at St. James’ Park.
Goals from Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff saw the Magpies open up a seven-point gap over 18th-placed Southampton, who take on Fulham later today, as manager Rafa Benitez looks to guide his side to top-flight safety once again.
And based on the recent Burnley showing, the Spaniard should have no problem doing so.
As ever, Newcastle looked solid, something which Benitez has installed at the Tyneside club with the team rarely conceding during home games, or at least not in the way their relegation rivals do.
Considering that, among other reasons, Mike Ashley must do everything in his power to convince the 58-year-old to extend his contract which expires at the end of the season.
