Newcastle United will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing late defeat to Wolves when they take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Premier League this Saturday.
A rebound strike from Matt Doherty right at the death denied the Magpies of a point in a match that has caused Rafael Benitez to call for the immediate introduction of VAR.
“We need VAR right now,” the Newcastle boss told Sky Sports after the game, as he fumed over an incident involving Wily Boly and Ayoze Perez among other decisions made on the day by referee Mike Dean.
“So if you see the incidents today. It’s so obvious – the red card and the elbow in the face of Ayoze Perez. We need the VAR right now.”
Benitez will now be hoping for a much better refereeing performance when Anthony Taylor takes to the pitch for Newcastle’s upcoming clash with Huddersfield but, without VAR, officials will only continue to dominate the headlines as the season goes on.
