It’s been a long eleven months for Miguel Almiron, failing to get off the mark in terms of goals and assists since his arrival on Tyneside for quite some time, but after setting up Newcastle United’s first equaliser against Manchester City at the weekend, supporters are now congratulating him – with quite a few of them insisting that he stays on the left of midfield from now on.

The Paraguayan, who temporarily broke Newcastle’s transfer record last January, signing for £20 million from MLS club Atlanta United, finally got off the mark on Saturday afternoon when his square pass to Jetro Willems resulted in the defender firing in a first-half equaliser to stun Premier League champions City.
From then on, Almiron failed to continue that impact but still put in a gutsy performance nonetheless – displaying the same energy and vigour which somewhat landed him in good faith with a section of Magpies supporters.
However, last weekend was a cause for celebration in regards to finally grabbing his first assist for the club, and Toon fans have made a case of praising the South American on Twitter whilst also insisting that he plays on the left side, having made 25 appearances there throughout his career, per Transfermarkt.
Here’s what they had to say.
People forget he has assisted 23 chances….not all his fault they weren’t scored.
I don’t understand the criticism, he was superb last night.— Pauly (@maxii30) December 1, 2019
And he got it from the left….he needs to play there all game, rather than just fleeting appearances there.

Assist from the left side of the pitch because he doesn’t have to cut in to use his strong foot

Great potential and has helped the team massively, especially last season when he helped with others to turn the season around. Always gives 100%, needs the support from the supporters to boost his confidence and the goals will come as they have when he is in international duty.

Assist as soon as he drifted to the left 🤔. Wonder why that was.

I’ve said this for months.

Almiron on the left for 10 seconds: assist. Bruce, wake up.

Scary Bruce hasn’t tried Almiron down the left, ASM down the right. Gives us WAY more balance and both players would be more comfortable. This cutting in nonsense isn’t working
