After their impressive and much needed 3-2 victory at West Ham last weekend, Steve Bruce appears to be making more moves by tying key players down to new contracts.
Of those rumoured to be extending their stays at St. James’ Park, at least according to the Daily Mirror via The Chronicle [12:32], Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie and the Longstaff brothers are all in line for new contracts on Tyneside.
Shelvey’s signing is apparently imminent, with the rest of the players linked reportedly having to wait until the New Year before they can sign as well.
Reacting to the news, fans have shown a degree of complacency mixed with potential excitement, with a few wondering if this will impact their transfer moves in January and how the likes of Shelvey even deserve a new contract.
There’s little questioning the decision to tie down the Longstaff brothers however, with both youngsters mightily impressing since bursting on to the scene.
Here’s how the fans reacted to some potentially huge news.
So that means no signing in January than

I’m surprised Jonjo is getting a new deal, he’s great when he shows up but you don’t always see the best of him.

What’s Jonjo done to earn the new deal?

Hayden and the Longstaff brothers are a must.

You have to wonder if Hayden just had an issue with Rafa as he seems happy to stay now

I want Schar to sign long term contact more than anyone of them
