Lots of Newcastle United fans are raging at a takeover claim from former Premier League star Craig Burley after he said that the Tyneside club’s new regime will struggle to persuade players to come to the North East.
Speaking to ESPN (via ChronicleLive), the ex-Chelsea and Celtic man highlighted that back when he was playing, London was for a long time the hub to attract footballers, and whilst Manchester has also been able to attract players, swaying them away from the bright lights of the capital city to the north-east was particularly difficult.

He also claimed that not only will it take a lot of money to find the best players, they will need to buy into the project at St. James’ Park too.
As the proposed takeover edges nearer, it is perhaps expected that the new owners will be spending their money to try and bring better players to the Magpies, but it is another question as to whether they would be attracted to the city.
These members of the Toon faithful raged at Burley’s claim, with one NUFC supporter branding it as ‘disrespectful’:

Craig Burley was a bang average player in Scotland, he is known for saying controversial things to get attention as a pundit because let’s face it, nobody in England cares who he is or what drivel he has to spill !
