Newcastle United revealed the Geordies are through to the third round of the FIFA Ultimate QuaranTeam, after Andy Carroll scored again, and these supporters are gushing over the latest news.
As the footballing world struggles to cope with the fact the beautiful game is suspended in the wake of the ongoing global crisis, fans, players and pundits alike have been coming up with fresh ideas to fill the gap in the sports calendar.
With that in mind, Leyton Orient have set up a FIFA 20 tournament known as the ‘Ultimate QuaranTeam’ in reference to current affairs, which has expanded to 128 teams from around the world. Pro gamers and footballers are all showing their skills in e-sports, with the profits being split between EFL clubs affected by recent events, the WHO and MIND.
Jake Shaw (AKA PlanetToast) once again carried the virtual squad to a 1-0 win over French side FC Nantes, with an in-game Andy Carroll scoring the crucial decider.
Carroll repeated his heroics from earlier in the week to secure the win. After the keeper saved his initial attempt, Allan Saint-Maximin latched onto the stray ball and quickly passed it back to the former Liverpool forward, who smashed it into the back of the net. Despite the fact it’s only a video game a large number of the Toon Army surprisingly raved over the result online. One fan commented it was a “Rafa-esque performance” while another supporter added the game was “absolutely unbelievable.”
