Newcastle United: Fans react to Boubakary Soumare transfer blow

Loads of Newcastle United fans have reacted to a report from ChronicleLive writer Lee Ryder which was shared on The Chronicle’s official Twitter account.

The article states that Liverpool are likely to pip the club to Boubakary Soumare, who was reportedly Newcastle’s number one target in the January transfer window, they even had a bid accepted for the LOSC Lille star of £45 million, which would have been a club record after paying £40 million for Joelinton in the summer. However, Soumare reportedly rejected the move amidst interest for Chelsea and Manchester United.

Ryder’s article states that Real Madrid are also among the interested parties, and now Liverpool, as the 21-year old potentially holds out for a ‘bigger’ club.

Soumare wins three total duels on average per game in Ligue 1 this campaign, while also making one tackle, 0.8 interceptions and 0.4 clearances per match, according to Sofascore. However, the central midfield player has scored no goals, made no assists and created no big chances in France’s top flight.

Nevertheless, these Magpies discussed the news, with one member of the Toon Army branding it ‘devastating’:
