According to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Martin Dubravka left the game at St Mary’s on crutches and awaits further assessment back in Newcastle. As expected plenty of the Toon Army have expressed their concerns on social media and are anxiously waiting to hear more.
Speaking to BBC Newcastle, Steve Bruce said Dubravka “got a whack, but we think he’s going to be OK.” The Newcastle goalkeeper sustained a knee injury after a heavy challenge from Southampton striker Danny Ings (Chronicle).
After joining the Black and Whites from AC Sparta Praha in 2018 for a reported £3.6m fee, the Slovakian has played in 79 games in the Premier League for the Magpies, keeping 24 cleans sheets and only conceding 100 goals. Dubravka’s market value is rated at £6.3m (Transfermarkt).
Backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow has made 4 appearances in the FA Cup this season, conceding 5 goals and keeping only 1 clean sheet (Transfermarkt).
Dubravka has made the most saves in the Premier League this season, racking up a staggering 117 so far.
Despite the fact the club are eight points clear of the drop zone, given that Bruce’s side face a tough FA Cup tie against Manchester City, many Mags will be anxiously hoping the 31-year-old’s latest setback isn’t too serious.

Dubravka looks really uncomfortable out there he also did against Burnley if he’s picked up a injury that’s our season practically over.

He got done twice. Ings done him and so did Long. Think it was the whack from Ings where he got treatment for ages.
