Newcastle United: Fans react to Sky Sports update on takeover talks

Lots of Newcastle fans have been reacting after Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie shared his views on the latest takeover rumours, and it’s fair to say the Toon Army are trying their utmost best not to get excited.

It’s the January transfer window, it’s season ticket renewal time and we all know what happens next. According to the Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-wealth fund is in talks to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley for about £340m.

The report claims that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is behind the interest, and is working with a group of investors organised by British financier Amanda Staveley, which will of course set alarm bells ringing for Magpies fans – Staveley was part of a separate failed attempt to buy the club back in the 2017/18 season.

Downie seems fairly optimistic about the rumours though, stating on Twitter that the typical cynicism around this news surfacing during the transfer window may be misplaced due to the fact that the club have already signed two players, while he also states that the figure quoted in the report is ‘around Ashley’s asking price’.

Unsurprisingly though, most of the fans are having none of it, as you can see in the Twitter reactions down below…
