Some Newcastle United fans have reacted to transfer links for Rafa Silva as The Sun (via ChronicleLive) reported that the Tyneside club are preparing a bid for the Benfica playmaker.
According to the reports, the Magpies are preparing a £15 million bid for Silva in the summer transfer window, but the Portuguese side initially valued him at £25 million.
However, because of current circumstances and the fact that NUFC were the first Premier League club to put their non-playing staff on furlough, including the recruitment team, some members of the Toon faithful are sceptical that any potential deal can happen.
Nevertheless, Silva may be a wise option for the club based off his stats in this campaign. The 26-year old has managed nine goals and six assists in 25 appearances in all competitions this term, as per Transfermarkt.
These supporters reacted to the news, but did not pay any particular attention to the midfield player himself:
how can they bid for players when they can't pay staff?????

Even as a nufc fan I think it is wrong to be talking about transfers when we are taking government money through the furlough scheme

Genuine question – how is this possible if all scouting staff etc have been furloughed?

Where are NUFC getting the money springs to mind?
Especially when they furloughed a large number of staff?

Staff furloughed. An extremely tight owner that leaves everything until the last minute in order to use the excuse we couldn’t get it over the line. A global pandemic. You lot spinning stories like this 🤦🏻♂️
