Many Newcastle United fans have reflected on the reign of Alan Pardew after The Chronicle posted a throwback tweet of the back page of a Sun on Sunday newspaper which mocked the former manager.
This came after Pardew turned on the local press after a 1-0 loss to Stoke City in the Premier League back in 2014, which prompted the paper to sarcastically apologise for the Tyneside club’s run of poor form.
Indeed, the Magpies had lost their last three games in the top flight to Everton, Southampton and Manchester United prior to the Stoke match, with an aggregate scoreline of 11-0, according to Transfermarkt. The season was relatively poor overall, as Pardew managed 41 games at the club, recording 17 wins, four draws and 20 losses, picking up 55 points and scoring 48 goals whilst conceding 62, as per the website.
To make matters worse, the ex-Newcastle coach was fined £100,000 for headbutting David Meyler in the same campaign, as the BBC writes.
