Newcastle United: Fans slam Simon Jordan over his positive assessment of Mike Ashley

Mike Ashley

Despite Mike Ashley’s infamous unpopularity on Tyneside, with supporters often protesting his ownership, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has come out in defence of his tenure and claimed ‘he isn’t a difficult man to deal with’.

Speaking to TalkSPORT via the Newcastle Chronicle, Jordan took a somewhat rare approach when describing Ashley as a business person and all-round human being – describing the Sports Direct owner in a positive light.

Since launching a takeover of the club in 2007, Sir John Hall had previously described the tycoon as ‘the right person to take the club forward’, but fast-forward 12 years and the consensus among supporters couldn’t be more contrasting.

Newcastle are currently sitting 14th in the table with just three wins out of their last 10 Premier League matches – with new recruits Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron having scored one goal between them.

Here’s how some of the Geordie faithful responded to Jordan’s verdict on Twitter:

Tell that to those trying to buy the club.
