Newcastle United: Fans swoon over takeover claim from George Caulkin

Many Newcastle United fans are swooning over a claim from George Caulkin about the buying side of the prospective takeover.

Speaking on the podcast Pod On The Tyne (via NUFC 360), The Athletic writer revealed what the buying side, led by businesswoman Amanda Staveley, have said about the Tyneside club. The journalist claims that the buying side have referred to the Magpies as ‘the last great uncut diamond in the Premier League’, adding that the Toon ‘just needs cutting and polishing’.

The analogy refers to the club as having potential all along but it just needs to be given more time, effort and money in order for it to be the best that it can be. Whether the Saudi-led consortium are successful in their bid to take over from Mike Ashley is still up in the air, but it certainly seems from the buying side at least that they are hopeful that a deal can go through.

These members of the Toon faithful swooned over Caulkin’s claim, with one NUFC supporter even suggesting that Staveley should be given her own statue outside St. James’ Park:
