Newcastle United thumped minnows Rochdale 4-1 in their FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday evening, with one of the goals courtesy of a lovely touch and hit from youngster Matty Longstaff – but many supporters before the encounter were worried over his ‘unbelievable‘ contract situation.
According to a report by Match of the Day magazine via NUFC 360, Longstaff is still on an £850-per-week deal despite having broken into the first team this campaign, with the stance on his future apparently being that he is free to speak to other clubs – and both Milan sides potentially harbour an interest. Supported by a Chronicle piece from early October, the 19-year-old could leave in the summer for a ‘six-figure sum’ – prompting a few Magpies supporters to worry over him not signing a new contract.
The Englishman, when compared to his midfield teammates, has impressed in terms of pass accuracy – so far accumulating a superior percentage (78.3%) over preferred pair Jonjo Shelvey (73.6%) and Isaac Hayden (78.1%), as per WhoScored.com. As a result, these Newcastle fans have pleaded with the club to not make a big mistake.

He should have got a new contract as soon as he made the first team. What a joke.

Would be the most #NUFC ever to let him go as ‘both parties couldn’t reach an agreement’ and he turns into a superstar elsewhere..
