According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Newcastle United have prolonged the player ban from Benton training ground into April in light of recent events.
The football reporter noted the first-team were initially due to return next Monday but this has been pushed back for at least another week, if not more. Downie added squad players are still carrying out their own tailored fitness programs provided by backroom staff at home in self-isolation.
Several stars like Allan Saint-Maximin have been regularly posting entertaining content like viral challenges to keep football fans up-to-date on social media.
Earlier in the week the Premier League provisionally announced fixtures will be suspended until the end of April at the earliest, and, given the circumstances, club officials have decided to extend the training ground shutdown.
Predictably the latest training update prompted various responses from the Toon Army, with some supporters suggesting the players won’t be back at Darsley Park by the new proposal. One Geordie commented Steve Bruce’s Black and Whites are “daft if they think they’ll be back by then.” Another fan angrily added the Tyneside club “are still taking payments for season tickets” which they feel is “unbelievable.”
