Newcastle United: Keith Downie says FA Cup is still important following West Brom victory

Newcastle United punched their ticket for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup following a dramatic 3-2 victory over Championship leaders, West Brom, at the Hawthorns.

And even though this would not be considered a gigantic result for many of the top-tier clubs in the Premier League, it was still pretty massive for the supporters who came to see their teams duke it out. Keith Downie remarked as much on his Twitter profile when he shared the attendance figures following the Magpies’ victory and he highlighted that the FA Cup is indeed still pretty important to the fans.

Of course, even though it was not directly mentioned, Downie’s tweet could be a comment on the fact that some of the big teams often deploy highly rotated squads for these occasions, which makes the competition seem somewhat less important.

But with 5000 Newcastle fans travelling to see their team advance to the quarter-finals before erupting into pure joy, it’s still pretty safe to say that the old tournament is still worth something.

Let’s see how far the Magpies can get.

Newcastle fans, do you think the FA Cup is an important title to secure? Do you agree with Downie’s statement? Let us know down in the comments below!
