Luke Edwards has claimed that the Premier League are ‘trying to find a way’ to pass the proposed takeover of Newcastle United as he spoke to both Jim White and Natalie Sawyer on talkSPORT.
The Daily Telegraph journalist also claimed on the radio show that the delay boils down to perhaps underestimating the scale of the piracy issue in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and also sympathised with other members of the Toon Army that they have been told on multiple occasions now that the prospective £300 million deal between Mike Ashley and the KSA group will go through.

Indeed, given that the 2019/20 season in the top flight is finished now, there are several keen eyes on England’s highest division as it is ultimately their final decision on whether to approve of the bid.
They set out an Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT) to the buying side four months ago now, but the results of this has still not yet been disclosed.

There have also been other delays, such as the banning of beIN Sports in the KSA by the Saudis. Indeed, as Edwards talks about on the show, this has complicated the whole process further, as effectively the Saudi people will not be able to watch games from the Premier League legally in their own country, given that beIN Sports is the only outlet available to do this in the Middle East.

Nevertheless, until a final decision is made by the league followed by an official announcement, everything still remains unclear, but Edwards believes that the top flight are ‘trying to find a way’ to pass the takeover.
