Newcastle United: Magpies fans celebrate St Patrick’s Day

Loads of Newcastle fans reacted to a post from the club’s official Twitter account celebrating St Patrick’s Day.

The Magpies shared pictures of defender Ciaran Clark and legendary goalkeeper Shay Given to mark the iconic celebration of Irish culture.

The 30-year-old centre-back is currently hampered by an ankle injury and has only made 14 appearances and still bagged two goals in the Premier League for Steve Bruce’s Black and Whites this season. Clark’s market value is estimated at £5.4m (Transfermarkt).

Given featured in over 400 matches for Newcastle, keeping 125 clean sheets throughout his time in Tyneside (Transfermarkt).

Predictably the club’s tweet prompted loads of reactions from the Toon Army, with several fans mentioning the absence of former players Damien Duff, Daryl Murphy and Stephen Ireland.

After moving to St. James’ Park from Chelsea for £13.95m, Duff played in 86 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 6 goals and providing 7 assists. The former Irish international earned over 100 caps for his country and scored 8 goals (Transfermarkt).

One supporter remarked “Damien Duff is fuming.”
