Many fans have expressed dismay after Newcastle United were drawn against FA Cup titleholders Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
The Black and Whites beat Championship side West Bromwich Albion in the fifth round, with Miguel Almiron scoring a brace and Valentino Lazaro bundling over the winner in a 3-2 victory away at the Hawthorns. The Daily Star’s Aaron Stokes believes the tie is already over despite the Magpies having beaten City 4-3 on aggregate at St James’ Park in the past two games (WhoScored).
He immediately tweeted his reaction after the announcement.
Was an absolute blast while it lasted, lads #NUFC

Manchester City are in the hunt for silverware with the league seemingly out of their grasp and the Toon Army will be well aware of the attacking threat posed by the likes of Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.
A weaker City squad were frustrated by a determined Sheffield Wednesday side before Aguero broke the deadlock in the second half. Aguero has now scored 20 goals in 22 FA Cup ties (BBC). Indeed, Steve Bruce’s team will have to be at their very best if they want to stop the Argentine from adding to his impressive record.
One fan simply tweeted “RIP the dream” with another adding “existence is pain.”
