According to Brazilian outlet Gazeta Esportiva, Newcastle United are in a ‘fight’ with Barcelona and CSKA Moscow over striker Marcos Paulo’s signature – with some Magpies supporters since going on to rubbish these claims despite the team’s apparent need for more goals going forward.
Paulo, who has a moderate return of six goals in 31 Brazilian Serie A appearances for Fluminese (Transfermarkt), is currently displaying a degree of promise since his rise to the first team – but many Newcastle fans really don’t see him as the answer to their goalscoring conundrum.
The 19-year-old, described as being in a ‘titular‘ position by time24news, is reportedly also being chased by La Liga giants Barcelona and Russian competitors CSKA Moscow – with the teenager now facing the prospect of a European move. Since usurping fellow striker Joao Pedro in the starting line-up, Paulo has gone on to become Fluminese’s ‘cheerleader‘ – but you could argue his return doesn’t warrant a serious pursuit. However, it could be argued that Paulo would make a promising back up in future, with Joelinton’s injury now forcing Magpies youngster Tom Allan to make his step up into the first team.
Given reports of a striker move in the past, though, Newcastle fans aren’t exactly optimistic this will eventually come to fruition – find all of their best comments down below.
