Newcastle United: Mark Douglas insight into takeover talk prompts furious reaction from supporters

According to revelations from the Wall Street Journal podcast via an update from Chronicle writer Mark Douglas, producer Carla DiBello pitched a £344.8 million takeover of Newcastle United to the Saudi Arabian PIF without offering any real financial details when asked to by journalist Justin Scheck – prompting Magpies supporters to fume over the insight.

Back in late January, a report from the Guardian suggested a deal was ‘90%‘ complete between Prince Mohammed bin Salman and current owner Mike Ashley to pass over the ownership of Newcastle – but this report has revealed that it may not have been that close after all. According to the WSJ podcast, Keeping up with the Kardashians producer DiBello pitched the idea to buy out the majority shares at St. James’ Park – with fellow businesswoman Amanda Staveley and herself gaining stakes in the club as a condition they run it on the PIF’s behalf.

However, judging by Mr Scheck’s comments on the podcast, financial details of the takeover couldn’t be revealed – putting into question the legitimacy of this reported move.

As a result, many Magpies supporters have responded furiously to the news – here’s what they had to say.
