Newcastle United: Mark Douglas reveals when takeover decision may be made

St James' Park Newcastle

Mark Douglas has revealed in his piece for The Chronicle when the final decision by the Premier League on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United may be made.

Indeed, it has now been months since the news broke out that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group had agreed a £300 million deal with Mike Ashley to buy the Tyneside club off of his hands, but various delays have meant that the top flight are still yet to make their final decision as to whether the prospective bid should go through or not.

Will the Newcastle takeover go through?

No

No

However, Douglas has shed some light on the situation, as he has suggested that a final decision should be made by the time the 2019/20 season finishes to avoid uncertainty and confusion for the next campaign.

The upcoming summer transfer window is expected to open as soon as the current term in the Premier League finishes, which is only in a couple of weeks.

If the final decision on the takeover is not made by this time, then it would surely cast doubt over how much money the Magpies would be willing to spend given the potentially high contrast in finances available.

There would perhaps also be some uncertainty over the future of Steve Bruce, as the would-be owners may look to employ someone else in the manager position as the Englishman is not technically their appointment.

Who was the last club Rafa managed before Newcastle?

He may have different views about which players to bring in and how much money he should spend on each one, so again this would arguably have to be sorted out pending the final decision on the takeover.

Geordies, should Bruce be the NUFC coach after the takeover? Comment below!
