Taking to Twitter and debating Newcastle United’s standout players of the season so far, one man, in particular, keeps cropping up in the discussion – with ‘keeper Martin Dubravka attracting hefty praise for his ‘different class‘ outings so far this campaign.
Dubravka, who has made an impressive 114 saves this season (Premier League), is debatably one of Newcastle’s most important figures in their bid to avoid the drop. The Slovakian, who signed on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018 after an initially successful loan spell, has since gone on to accumulate 78 appearances for the Magpies – becoming a key player and regular starter (Transfermarkt). One supporter even suggested that the 31-year-old has been ‘better than Henderson‘ this season (referring to Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean). Comparing the two, Henderson has made fewer saves (66) but has also saved one more penalty than Dubravka whilst making fewer errors that lead to goals (1).

Whether or not the Magpies stopper is superior to Henderson is up for debate, but these Newcastle fans certainly think he is worthy of praise regardless.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.

If we stay up and Dubravka doesn’t it’s just wrong, luck and him are the only reasons we aren’t bottom rn

If Dubravka goes in the Summer, not one #NUFC fan should berate the lad. Deserves so much more.
