Newcastle United: Micheal Owen comments over Magpies career to podcast anger supporters

Speaking to Jamie Carragher’s  ‘The Greatest Game’ podcast via the Chronicle, former Newcastle United striker Micheal Owen has revisited a revelation over his career on Tyneside – hinting to the Liverpool legend that he was waiting to sign at Anfield which was his much-preferred move at the time.

Owen, who scored 30 goals in 79 outings overall for Newcastle during his time in the North East (Transfermarkt), was somewhat marred by a plague of injury issues before opting to join Manchester United in the summer of 2009. From then on, the former England striker would continue to impress in flashes but was unable to recapture his stunning form for ex-club Liverpool – a team he was desperate to rejoin before settling for Newcastle according to the player.

This isn’t the first time Owen has hit back over his career on Tyneside, revealing in his book last year that he had no obligation to justify himself to supporters – resulting in a social media row with Magpies legend Alan Shearer.
