According to a recent report from the Guardian, Newcastle United’s newly proposed takeover bid from Saudi Arabian royal Prince Mohammed bin Salman could be ‘90%’ complete as the Public Investment Fund, brokered by Amanda Staveley, look set to finally tempt Mike Ashley into selling the club.
Ashley, who has previously turned down numerous attempts from buyers, including a failed coup from current broker Staveley two years ago, looks like he could be serious about selling up this time – especially with a report from the Financial Times claiming the magnate’s accountants have been told Newcastle is ‘disappearing‘ from his books.
The PIF, reportedly helped along by PCP Capital Partners’ Staveley, who is apparently after a 10% share if the deal becomes completed, could be set to end Ashley’s controversial 12-year reign at the helm of St. James’ Park.
However, given how deals have fallen through in the past, some Newcastle supporters are not confident the Sports Direct honcho will sell up – citing a potential ‘arrogance’ in negotiations.

The problem is he is arrogant.

Ashley is playing a dangerous game if he messes around MBS and the consortium. This could go badly wrong for him.

Ashley has never wanted to sell and won’t for some time the only positive and the most current fakeover will hopefully highlight this to the many Ashley apologists around us

If Ashley doesn’t sell now he never will. There will never be another buyer who has the wealth behind them. He even said that it would require the money of a State to compete, well now is the chance. For me it’s now or never

Does he revert to the greedy spiteful knacker he is and ask for another 100m? given who the buyer is! He’s prone to moving the goal posts as it suites.

Why would you say something is for sale for 12 years finally have someone offer you what you want to then need time to decide if it’s what you want to do?!
