Newcastle United: Nabil Bentaleb performance during 4-0 Arsenal humbling attracts backlash from supporters

After Arsenal strolled past Newcastle United on Sunday during a 4-0 romp at the Emirates Stadium, many supporters highlighted the ‘miles off the pace‘ display from one loan signing – with Nabil Bentaleb receiving waves of criticism for his showing.

Bentaleb, who signed on loan from Schalke in January, was struggling for game time in the Bundesliga having been ostracised from the first team since March – with a temporary spell at Newcastle potentially allowing the Algerian to rediscover his best form in the Premier League.

The former Spurs midfielder, who won just three out of his nine ground duels in midfield despite garnering an 84% pass accuracy, is now attracting the wrong kind of attention with a questionable display – with only Jamaal Lascelles and Martin Dubravka accumulating lower match ratings, as per SofaScore.

Indeed, if Bentaleb wants a permanent move away from Schalke and back to England’s top flight, he will have to put in more impressive shifts to appease Magpies supporters – with a lot of them laying into Bentaleb after his Arsenal outing.
