Newcastle United: Keith Downie reveals details of potential six-figure deal for Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle United: Keith Downie reveals details of potential six-figure deal for Allan Saint-Maximin - Newcastle United News

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has revealed that Allan Saint-Maximin could be set to become one of Newcastle’s highest earner if he puts pen to paper on a proposed new deal.

It has been reported that the winger is set to commit his future to the Magpies by signing a new deal on better terms than the original six-year contract he signed last year. It was also alleged that he has been seeking improved terms throughout the summer, as per the Daily Mail.

Allan Saint-Maximin thoroughly deserving of wage increase

Newcastle brought in Callum Wilson from Bournemouth this summer in a £20m deal and gave the 28-year-old a contract worth around £100,000-a-week, as per Football Insider. That has made the striker one of the club’s highest earners, with Andy Carroll also among their best-reimbursed players on £75,000-a-week, as per Spotrac.

Saint-Maximin is now set to also become of the club’s highest earners should he sign the new deal, as per Downie’s tweet. That is a reward that the 23-year-old will have thoroughly deserved as he has established himself as one of the Magpies’ main performers. The winger averaged 1.3 key passes and 1.2 shots per game and created eight big chances last term (via Sofascore).

Which year did Ashley launch his Newcastle takeover?

The Frenchman’s performances have earned praise from Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, who has labelled him as the Magpies’ “go-to-guy” for his “magnificent” performances. Saint-Maximin has at times been the one bright spark for Newcastle among all the uncertainty of the takeover talks.

Time for Allan Saint-Maximin to show he is one of Premier League’s best

At times last season, Saint-Maximin was inconsistent with his end product, despite wowing with the ball at his feet. The Frenchman averaged an impressive 4.7 dribbles per game last term but he also lost possession 12.7 times (via Sofascore). So far this season, though, he is averaging 2.3 successful dribbles per game but losing the ball just 7.7 times per match, as per Sofascore.

That suggests he is taking less time on the ball and using it better when in possession. That progression will decide whether he can become one of the best attacking players in the Premier League, and a new bumper deal should motivate him to raise his standards even further.
