Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin is set to commit his long-term future to the Magpies by signing a bumper new six-year deal at St James’ Park.
The forward only arrived at Newcastle from Nice in the summer of 2019 for around £16.5 million, with the Frenchman signing a six-year deal with the Magpies. However, the winger had sparked some speculation over his future in a recent interview with Sport.fr, where he stated that he could need to move to a top-six club to get international recognition.
Saint-Maximin’s cryptic Tweet becomes clearer
The 23-year-old attacker has hit the ground running in the Premier League and has already been described by Steve Bruce as a player with ‘scary ability.’ Saint-Maximin has been an integral part of the Magpies’ attack so far this term, registering one goal and one assist in three appearances.
The Frenchman delivered a cryptic message on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning, which has since been deleted, as per Chronicle Live. That had left some supporters wondering what the 23-year-old was referring to. It has now emerged that he is set to sign a new six-year deal on improved terms, as per the Daily Mail.
Saint-Maximin had been seeking to improve his wages by signing a new contract with the Magpies this summer, and it now seems that Bruce’s side are set to reward the 23-year-old’s early-season form with that new and improved contract he had been wanting, as per the Daily Mail.
Saint-Maximin new deal massive for Newcastle progression
Newcastle enjoyed a solid summer window with the additions of Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis for a combined £35 million. With all the talk over a takeover still potentially being possible, the Magpies must outline their ambition to progress by keeping hold of players such as Saint-Maximin.
The 23-year-old is an exceptional talent and he is beginning to offer and end product to his raw flair – the forward has averaged 2.3 successful dribbles per game so far this term, whilst also averaging a 92% passing accuracy up from 79% last term (via Sofascore). If he continues his development, he has the ability become of the league’s best attackers so it’s great news that he will be tied down to the Magpies.
