Newcastle United: Alan Shearer shares takeover revelation

Alan Shearer has shared a revelation involving interest in a potential takeover of Newcastle United.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, the St. James’ Park legend has revealed that previous prospective buyers of the North East club have got in contact with him before and asked as to whether he would be interested in a takeover, although he admits that there has never been anything concrete behind those talks.

Is a potential Newcastle takeover still on?

It is no doubt interesting to hear that Shearer has been contacted before over a potential takeover of the Tyneside club, especially with the current situation that the Magpies find themselves in.

There is still a pending arbitration hearing that needs to be sorted out between the Toon and the Premier League over the failed deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium.

The KSA’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) are also off of the table at the moment, and would have to come back to the fore if there is any chance of the original bid being revived.

Nonetheless, the common theme is that new ownership has been wanted for a period of time now, and it is not yet clear as to whether that will be allowed to happen with the KSA group.
