Newcastle United: Papiss Demba Cisse almost joined Champions League winners

Former Newcastle United fan favourite Papiss Demba Cisse has told Senegalese television (via LIGABlatt) that he almost signed for Bayern Munich instead of the Magpies.
The now Fenerbahce man has said that he ‘had an offer’ from the current UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga holders and that ‘discussions were very good’ between them.
Is Cisse a Newcastle fan favourite?
Yes

No

However, the proposed transfer eventually broke down because Bayern did not want him to participate in the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, and so Cisse ‘rejected’ the offer.
Cisse a fan favourite at Newcastle
Cisse quickly became a fan favourite at the St. James’ Park faithful, forming a formidable partnership with his country compatriot Demba Ba.
The 35-year-old scored no fewer than 13 goals in just 14 games in the Premier League in his debut season in 2011/12 (Transfermarkt), helping the Tyneside club finish in a very respectable 5th spot in that particular campaign.
Cisse scored a grand total of 44 goals and made a further 10 assists in 131 matches in total over all competitions across five consecutive terms (Transfermarkt), and is still remembered very well by the Toon Army.
Nonetheless, it is a case of what could have been or even what might not have been for the Magpies if Cisse were to end up signing for Bayern instead, but it is no doubt interesting to hear that the striker’s path could have been so much different.
