Newcastle United: Daryl Murphy praises Ciaran Clark

Daryl Murphy has been left praising Ciaran Clark after the Newcastle United ace penned a new deal with the St. James’ Park faithful.
Speaking to The Chronicle, the retired Republic of Ireland international said that he ‘can’t speak highly enough of’ the 31-year-old and described him as ‘no-nonsense’.
Clark has been a brilliant servant to Newcastle
Clark has been nothing short of a fantastic servant to the Tyneside club, playing in no fewer than 103 games in total in all competitions for the Magpies over the last five consecutive terms (Transfermarkt), as he played a big part in getting them promoted back to the Premier League from the EFL Championship a few seasons ago.
Should Newcastle have given Clark a new deal?
Yes

No

He has nearly always been a feature in the team, and that has been no different in the 2020/21 term, in where he has won 5.8 of his duels a game so far in the top flight and has also averaged 4.5 clearances and 1.5 interceptions per match (Sofascore).
Nonetheless, if Steve Bruce’s side are to survive relegation from the EPL this campaign, Clark will surely have played his part in doing so, and his past displays and overall loyalty to the Toon have meant that his new contract has been very well-deserved.
