The proposed takeover of Newcastle United has not been delayed by the Project Restart campaign set out by the Premier League, according to the top flight chief Richard Masters.

Sky News presenter Martha Kelner spoke to the CEO of England’s highest division regarding the prospective deal between the current owner of the Tyneside club Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabia-led group.

Masters has also recently spoken out on the report that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) released with regards to Saudi Arabia’s protection of intellectual property rights, specifically responding to the accusations made by Qatar regarding the pirate television channel beoutQ, which illegally streams games from the Premier League, and its associations with the country.

As per Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie on his official Twitter page, Masters said that himself and the league take the issues with piracy ‘very seriously’ as they also stand by what they have said in the past.

However, the top flight CEO said that he could not comment on the timing or substance of the prospective takeover at St. James’ Park.

Whilst the WTO report does not mention the possible takeover in the North East, other concerns were raised which could potentially be factored in in terms of the final decision for the Premier League to make as to if they decide to approve of the £300 million bid or not.

That said, the fact that Masters has come out and openly spoke about the deal should encourage members of the Toon faithful at least, although it is still unclear just what his final ruling will be.
