Newcastle United really should consider swooping on Chelsea’s £18m-rated title winner

Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are pleased with how their side has performed in recent weeks, after flirting with the possibility of relegation throughout the current campaign.

The Magpies have been in fine form recently as they’ve finally steered clear of the relegation zone and could now even finish in the top half of the table, with a number of games still left to play in the current campaign. However, many of our local northerners are already looking ahead, as the summer transfer window will have a huge say on whether they enjoy success next season.

Indeed, Newcastle should think about bringing a central midfielder to the club in the summer months, with Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater being an attractive target for the Magpies. Interestingly, the midfielder is currently valued at £18 million (by Transfermarkt), and could be up for sale in the summer after a less than convincing first season at Stamford Bridge.

So without further ado, here’s TWO reasons as to why Newcastle should sign Danny Drinkwater in the summer transfer window…

Wealth of experience

Danny Drinkwater may still be in his twenties but he’s already gained so much experience in his footballing career, after enjoying a successful time at former club Leicester City and is now on the brink of completing his first season at Chelsea.

Indeed, the 28-year-old has played in the Champions League for both the Blues and the Foxes, which could come in handy if Rafa Benitez can take them to Europe next season.

So, Drinkwater would be a quality signing for the Magpies in the summer transfer window, as success may not be too far away if they can bring the two-time Premier League winner to St James’ Park.

Proven quality

The Englishman has delivered wherever he’s played his football throughout his career thus far and is now a regular in the England national side, but could miss out on a World Cup spot after a frustrating season.

Although, Drinkwater is arguably one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League, after playing a huge part in Leicester City’s shock title winning campaign a few years back.

Nevertheless, the Magpies have been unfortunate so far this season with Mohamed Diame only managing to produce positive performances in recent times, so adding Drinkwater to their ranks would ensure consistency.
