Following the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) move to open a social media update account on Twitter, many Magpies fans have responded to the update with hopes that they can get some clarity over any potential Newcastle takeover news.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman, backed by the PIF, has been linked with a move to buy the majority shares in Newcastle from current owner Mike Ashley since late January, with an article from The Guardian stating that a £340m deal to sell the club was ‘90%’ complete. However, after a month of steady updates followed by radio silence, the Chronicle revealed last week that there hasn’t actually been any ‘concrete’ bid for the club.
Getting desperate, some Magpies supporters are now hoping that the PIF’s new Twitter account can alleviate some concerns over the lack of news coming out of either side. Given the account’s purpose, ‘updates on our projects and investments‘, it isn’t completely impossible to think that a takeover, when completed, would be announced first and foremost on the platform.
Here’s what Newcastle fans had to say surrounding the PIF’s latest move.
Saudi’s Public Investment Fund has launched their English twitter account, “posting exclusively in English, updating you on the latest #PIF news and announcements.” @PIF_en
Hoping for an #NUFC related one sooner rather than later, lads. 🙏

Maybe PIF are waiting until Newcastle are safe. Three points against Burnley would go a long way towards that

They need to tweet some statement either confirming or denying, literally one tweet could set this all straight.
