Newcastle United: Takeover hopes still alive as PIF news emerges

The hopes of the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium are still alive as the KSA’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) continue to monitor developments in the saga.

As per The Chronicle, they also remain in regular contact with the KSA group, which consists of the Saudi Arabia crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), businesswoman and head of PCP Capital Partners Amanda Staveley and the billionaire Reuben brothers, who are based in London.

Indeed, it seems as if PIF have not given up their hopes of taking over at St. James’ Park from Mike Ashley.

The Chronicle journalist Mark Douglas has also claimed that PIF will come back in for another takeover pursuit if there is a clear path to do so.

The Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards understands that the Premier League and its chief executive Richard Masters keep returning to the issue as to whether PIF is separate from the Saudi state, in which they have offered independent arbitration to solve, and adds that this issue would probably need to be settled first in order for any sort of progress on the takeover to be made.

Nonetheless, fans in the North East could take some encouragement that PIF are continuing to monitor developments with the takeover saga and that they remain in regular contact with the KSA consortium.
