The proposed takeover of Newcastle United could be in serious doubt as the Premier League have revealed a rather key claim about their owner’s and director’s tests that they have put forward to Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabia-led group.

As per ChronicleLive, the English top flight have made it crystal clear to the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust (NUST) that the league’s ‘ownership test is stricter than many are led to believe’.
Indeed, the buying side that consists of businesswoman and PCP Capital Partners head Staveley, Saudi Arabian crown prince and head of the country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and the billionaire Reuben brothers that are based in London will have to pass these checks in order for England’s highest division to approve of the prospective deal with current owner of the Tyneside club Mike Ashley.
However, if the tests are as strict as what the Premier League are making them out to be, then it could potentially jeopardise the likelihood of the £300 million bid of being approved, given some of the previous concerns and the added delays that have come since news of the takeover broke out a fair while ago.
On the other hand, several members of the Toon faithful will be hoping that the concerns are rectified and that the added delays are only delaying the announcement of the deal at St. James’ Park.
Nevertheless, the Premier League are a little busy at the moment with trying to maintain Project Restart as the 2019/20 resumes, so maybe the takeover will not be fully dealt with until the league are fully satisfied that the campaign is running smoothly.
