Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted with the stance that Rafa Benitez is showing when it comes to the possibility of some of his players leaving this summer.
The 27-year-old has been the subject of a bid from Stoke City, who are looking to bring the forward to Staffordshire to help guide them back to the Premier League, however, Benitez is keen on keeping the player in the north-east.
Benitez has stated that he will only let fringe players leave this summer and it appears that Gayle is not keen on a move either. The forward is said to be happy on Tyneside as his family are settled and his future is also said to be rather secure. Indeed, the Potters are understood to have been told to up their offer if there is any chance of Gayle leaving St. James’ Park this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict
The Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be pleased that Benitez is not prepared to listen to any possible offers for Gayle, especially as they do not have a ready-made replacement to come in.
The striker did struggle for the Magpies in the beginning half of the season, however, he started to find his feet and started to delight the locals in the bar with his performances as the Toon managed to climb up the Premier League table away from trouble.
