Newcastle United supporters don’t often trust those in charge of the club at the best of times, as indicated by their fan protests which were reported by The Chronicle.
So when players begin to play well, the concern can develop that they may not be sticking around at St. James’ Park for long.
Fabian Schar has certainly been impressive since joining the club, especially this season, so this thinking has now been applied to the Switzerland international:
Anyone else got that feeling Ashley will accept 45-50M for Schar in January?
28, 2 years left on his contract, continuing fine form from last season and an area where Ashley wouldn’t even need a replacement.

The 27-year-old has scored twice and assisted once since 31st August, with the first goal being the equaliser against Watford, followed by a brilliantly worked goal against Republic of Ireland and a pinpoint cross to assist Admir Mehmedi against Gibraltar.
The Switzerland international has played all four of Newcastle’s Premier League games this season, averaging 3.3 tackles, 3.3 interceptions, 3.5 clearances and 1 block per game, as per WhoScored, as well as playing 5.5 long balls per game.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the question, including posts from concerned Newcastle fans, can be seen below:
I’ve got a feeling Man City will come for him, need a cb and he can do everything they want

Well that’s how Ashley operates. He’ll snatch their hands off.

This is one of several contracts that need review. I don’t imagine Ashley does contracts/extensions though.
This is on Charnley as is everything else #NUFC business. If anyone deserves serious scrutiny for what happens to us… it’s him.

This is nufc we won’t even get that anything upwards of £16/17 mil and we’ll sell

It would be no surprise if he did ! That’s all this football club is selling a selling club !

Aye I can see him being shipped out, can’t see us getting that much tho he will prob sell for anywhere near £35m and just use Lejeune to replace him. I’d love to think we can keep him till he retires but we’ll be lucky to keep him till the end of the jan window with his form atm.
