Newcastle United could make a late move to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance to St James' Park before the transfer deadline after the 21-year-old's move to Leeds United fell through.

Cuisance had looked like he was on his way to the Premier League to join newly-promoted Leeds after they had agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for the midfielder. However, the Frenchman failed a medical on Thursday due to a problem with his leg and the Whites did not want to risk signing him, according to Bild via Get German Football News.

The midfielder has been informed by Bayern Munich that he is free to leave the club before the transfer window closes, having fallen down the pecking order with the German champions, as per Sky Germany.

The Magpies had been reportedly interested in making a move for Cuisance, and Newcastle - along with Ligue 1 sides Nice and Marseille - could make a late move to sign the midfielder from the Champions League holders, according to Get French Football News, via Get German Football News.

Leeds had been prepared to pay £18m for Cuisance, with the 21-year-old having shown his potential to develop into an excellent midfield player during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he made 11 appearances in the 2018/19 campaign and 24 the previous season, as per Sofascore.

It would be a surprise to see Newcastle revive their interest in Cuisance and sign the midfielder before the deadline, but if they did it would represent another quality addition for the Magpies. The midfielder failed a medical with Leeds and there could be a risk in bringing him in to St James’ Park, but Steve Bruce might want to put his faith in the 21-year-old making a swift recovery from his current injury.

Cuisance is a player who should only get better over the next few years and bringing him to Tyneside would be a smart move if they can negotiate a cheaper deal with Bayern Munich due to the midfielder’s injury troubles. Newcastle could well make Leeds regret not taking a gamble on the Frenchman.
