Newcastle United have been backed to sign Josh King, Divock Origi and Tom Davies in the January transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, St. James’ Park legend Rob Lee was asked whether any of the players mentioned above, who were all linked with a move to the Tyneside club in the summer transfer window, would add something to Steve Bruce’s team, he said:
“I think they’d all add to the squad, I think they’re all Premier League proven players.
“I think the players who Steve Bruce signed in the summer were very, very good. [Callum] Wilson was a good signing, getting [Ryan] Fraser on a free transfer was very good. [Jamal] Lewis, the left-back too, all proven.
“I always like the players that Newcastle sign who have proven that they can play in the Premier League because it’s a tough league.”
King, Origi and Davies all Premier League proven
As Lee quite rightfully points out, all three players have proven themselves in the English top flight before.
Should Newcastle sign Origi?
Although AFC Bournemouth saw themselves relegated from England’s highest division down to the EFL Championship at the end of the 2019/20 term under Eddie Howe, King still played in a total of 161 games for them over the last five consecutive seasons, scoring no fewer than 48 goals in the process (Transfermarkt).
The other two stars are still playing in the top flight for Liverpool and Everton respectively, with Origi scoring 19 times in 92 matches (Transfermarkt) and Davies racking up 110 appearances in the last six campaigns.
Both King and Origi could come in to ease the goal scoring burden off of Callum Wilson, while Davies provides another option in the heart of midfield in case anyone in that role gets injured or suspended for a sustained period of time.
Nonetheless, Lee believes that their wealth of experience at the top level means they are all players the Magpies should look at once more in January.
