Newcastle United are expected to complete the signing of Galatasary ace Marcao, according to Mynet.
As per the outlet, Steve Bruce’s team have offered 15 million euros for the Brazilian, which is the equivalent of around £13.4 million.
However, the Turkish club would like the Magpies to increase their offer to 17 million euros, which equates to roughly £15.2 million.
Given that the two sides do not seem far apart at all in their valuations, perhaps it is likely that Marcao will eventually move to St. James’ Park, with the Turkish outlet claiming that the deal will be finalised in the near future.
Indeed, the central defender may well turn out to be a shrewd signing for the Toon, given that he won a relatively impressive 6.8 of his duels per game in the Super Lig in the 2019/20 term, while also averaging 3.2 clearances, 1.8 interceptions and 1.5 tackles a match (via Sofascore).
Standing at 1.85 metres tall, Marcao is a bit of a colossus, exemplified by him winning 2.6 of his aerial duels per appearance in Turkey’s top flight.
Being 24 years of age as well, the centre-back still has a lot of time to grow and develop in his role and so may well turn out to be a good bit of business for the future.
However, NUFC already have six senior centre-halves in their current squad for the new 2020/21 season, and so Marcao will have to beat off his competition if he is to make his expected move to the North East.
Does Marcao start for Newcastle?
Only time will tell as to whether the deal will actually go through, but if it does, it could well be a good one for the Tyneside club.
