Newcastle United will seemingly pull the plug on a deal to sign Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen, with the Magpies refusing to meet the asking price of the Tigers.
According to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle had been interested in signing the impressive young forward before the start of the new season, but Hull’s insistence on getting a fee in the region of £20m for the youngster seems to have put the Premier League outfit off.
Bowen was in superb form last season for Hull as he fired in an impressive 22 goals in what was mainly a Hull City side which struggled to put together any sort of promotion or play-off challenge.
However, his hopes of securing a Premier League move off the back of that form now look to have hit a snag, though there is still time for another top-flight outfit to come in for him. As well as Newcastle, Southampton were also credited with an interest in the winger.
Bowen would bring plenty of attacking guile to the Newcastle attack, with the 22-year-old averaging 2.5 shots per game last season (as per WhoScored) and registering four assists to go nicely alongside his 22 goals.
Newcastle recently splashed the cash on Brazilian forward Joelinton as they look to avoid any sort of relegation battle next year.
It’s a bit like a game of cat and mouse this one, with Hull wanting the maximum for their star man and Newcastle playing hardball themselves.
The big shame though is for Bowen, who would have been desperate to prove himself in the Premier League and now might have to bide his time and hope he performs well again next season in order to convince a Premier League club to make their move.
