Dean Smith has fans in high spirits after Aston Villa’s thumping victory over Middlesbrough at Villa Park yesterday, as they’re now in a very promising position in the race for a play-off place.
It’s safe to say that supporters are starting to feel confident that their side can get the job done in the current campaign. Jack Grealish has breathed new life into Aston Villa’s play-off push since returning from injury, with two goals and an assist in his last three Championship appearances.
However, one player in particular won’t be at Villa Park for much longer.

Aston Villa have decided against offering Jordan Lyden a new deal, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The 23-year-old’s contract runs out in the summer and it now looks as if he’ll have to find a new club.
Sadly, the Sun reported back in January that Lyden had suffered a season-ending injury in training after returning from his loan spell at League Two side Oldham Athletic, which would have influenced the club’s decision.
The Verdict:
Jordan Lyden has struggled for first-team opportunities during his time at Villa Park as he’s only managed to make eight appearances, with most of his time being spent playing for the Under-23s and on loan at Oldham.
He definitely has the quality to try and force his way into Dean Smith’s plans at Villa Park, but his current injury is what’s brought his Aston Villa career to the end as he won’t get the opportunity to prove himself before his contract runs out in the summer.
Aston Villa fans will be hoping that their side don’t grow to regret their decision to not offer him a new deal as he certainly has enough ability to bounce back after injury.
